Jack Mayer MD MPH FAAP

Dr. Jack Mayer is the founding member of Rainbow Pediatrics. He is board certified in Pediatrics and has a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from Columbia University, where he studied the molecular biology of childhood cancers. He has over thirty years of experience in rural primary care and was named a Vermont Hero in 2005. He is also a published author of Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project (2011) and Before the Court of Heaven (2015). 


Tawnya Kiernan MD FAAP

Dr. Tawnya Kiernan is a board certified pediatrician who has been with Rainbow Pediatrics since 2004. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont Medical School and completed a residency in Pediatrics in Toledo, Ohio. She has special interests in early childhood development and obesity.  Dr. Tawnya is an extraordinary gardener and she and her husband, Dr. Michael Kiernan are very involved in the Middlebury arts community.


Lauren Young MS, FNP-BC, RN

Lauren Young is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner who joined Rainbow Pediatrics in 2010.  She earned her MS in Nursing in November of 2010. Prior to that, she worked as an RN at the Community Health Services of Addison County/Open Door Clinic as a case manager and care coordinator for underserved and uninsured populations in Addison County.  Before she became a nurse, Lauren was a preschool teacher and early childhood educator at the University fo Vermont where she earned her BS in Early Childhood Education. She draws heavily on these experiences to support and to work with families at Rainbow Pediatrics. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys knitting, reading with her book club, and working on her yard and house with her husband, and daughters. 


Tammy Baker RN

Tammy joined Rainbow Pediatrics in 2009.  She is an avid gardner and shares her bounty with us every summer and Fall.  She spends her free time with her grandchildren, and keeping her chickens from digging up her gardens.


Lisa Ryan Office Manager

Lisa has been the Office Manager at Rainbow since 1999. She wears many hats and  keeps everything running smoothly.  She has two grown children. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her grandchildren.


Jessica Cram Reception

Jessica has been working at Rainbow since 2005. She is the most visible at the reception area but is also crucial as one of our Medical Home coordinators.  She is married and has two children. She is always in a good mood no matter how busy the office gets.


Judi Walker Reception

Judi joined Rainbow Pediatrics in 2011 and is one of our newest employees, although we swear that she has actually been here forever. She constantly makes us all laugh and keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously.


Sumra Harper-Deas RD

Sumra joined us in 2018 as a Registered Dietitian on our Community Health Team.  Her work experience includes clinical nutrition, coordination of a statewide nutrition education program, and as a children with special health needs community nutritionist.  Sumra will help families address concerns about growth, stages of feeding, mealtime behaviors, developing healthful habits, picky eating and more.  In her free time, she enjoys reading with her children and soaking up the quiet Vermont woods near her home.


Gussie Belisle DNP, FNP-C

Gussie is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner who joined Rainbow Pediatrics in July, 2019.  She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Vermont and previously worked for three years as an RN at a pediatric primary care practice in Chittenden County.  Gussie is a native Vermonter and enjoys being active outdoors, running, biking and hiking.  She is an avid baker (lucky us)!


Dayna Stimson DNP, FNP-C

Dayna is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner who is thrilled to have joined the Rainbow team!  While obtaining her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Vermont, she worked as an RN at UVM Medical Center's Women's Health Services.  In her free time, Dayna loves anything active outdoors, including skiing, running, and biking.  She also enjoys yoga, cooking, and wrangling her pet ducks and rabbit with her partner, Isaac.


Emmy Harvey LCMHC

Emmy is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and has worked with children and families in the Community Mental Health setting for over 20 years.  Emmy joins our staff one day a week to provide brief assessment and referral, as well as brief counseling and psychoeducation to children and parents within the practice.  Outside of work, she enjoys being active outside, spending time with family, friends and pets.  She loves working in her yard and garden and is also a great cook!


Carlie Barnum

Carlie is a MA and is the newest member of our Rainbow family.  She has worked in the healthcare field for 6 years.  In her free time, she enjoys camping, cooking, hiking, and spending time with her 3 nieces.


Megan Smits RN

Megan works part-time as a registered nurse.   Her wonderful sense of humor and commitment to her patients is a great addition to our Rainbow family.  In her free time, she enjoys baking, gardening and being with her Family.


Angela Brisson RN

Angela joined us as a part-time registered nurse in September 2019.  Outside of the office, she is a full-time Doctor of Nursing Practice student at the University of Vermont.  She is looking forward to graduating in May 2021 and venturing out to start her career as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
