Jack Mayer MD MPH FAAP

Dr. Jack Mayer is the founding member of Rainbow Pediatrics. He is board certified in Pediatrics and has a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from Columbia University, where he studied the molecular biology of childhood cancers. He has over thirty years of experience in rural primary care and was named a Vermont Hero in 2005. He is also a published author of Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project (2011) and Before the Court of Heaven (2015). 


Tawnya Kiernan MD FAAP

Dr. Tawnya Kiernan is a board certified pediatrician who has been with Rainbow Pediatrics since 2004. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont Medical School and completed a residency in Pediatrics in Toledo, Ohio. She has special interests in early childhood development and obesity.  Dr. Tawnya is an extraordinary gardener and she and her husband, Dr. Michael Kiernan are very involved in the Middlebury arts community.


Kate McIntosh MD FAAP

Dr. Kate McIntosh is a board certified pediatrician who has been with Rainbow Pediatrics since 2004. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado. She completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Michigan. She practiced for one year as a hospitalist in Norwood, MA and six years in rural Michigan before coming to Vermont. She was Chief of the Medical Staff in Michigan and is head of the Department of Pediatrics at Porter Hospital. She is also a member of the Board of Managers of Porter Hospital.  She has two children, is a weaver and knitter, and has a rather time-consuming collection of sheep and goats.


Lauren Young MS, FNP-BC, RN

Lauren Young is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner who joined Rainbow Pediatrics in 2010.  She earned her MS in Nursing in November of 2010. Prior to that, she worked as an RN at the Community Health Services of Addison County/Open Door Clinic as a case manager and care coordinator for underserved and uninsured populations in Addison County.  Before she became a nurse, Lauren was a preschool teacher and early childhood educator at the University fo Vermont where she earned her BS in Early Childhood Education. She draws heavily on these experiences to support and to work with families at Rainbow Pediatrics. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys knitting, reading with her book club, and working on her yard and house with her husband, and daughters. 


Monica Benjamin MBA, MSN, FNP-BC, RN, CLC

Monica joined the team at Rainbow in June 2012 as an RN.  She has a variety of experiences in pediatrics with a focus on adolescent health and wellness and concussions.  Monica is now a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) having completing her master's degree in nursing in early 2015.  Monica is also a Certified Lactation Counselor.  In her free time, Monica enjoys swimming, skiing, running, yoga and spending time with her family. 


Tammy Baker RN

Tammy has been working in Pediatrics for many years. She joined Rainbow Pediatrics in 2009 and became our Nurse Manager in 2011.  She currently spends her free time trying to keep her granddaughter and her chickens from digging up her gardens.


Molly Dora RN

Molly has been with Rainbow Pediatrics since January 2012.  She is originally from Massachusetts, and moved to Vermont via Arizona in 2000.  She and her husband have 2 children, and find time flies as they watch them grow!  One of the main reasons she loves to work at Rainbow Pediatrics is illustrated by a Robert Brault quote:  "The world is as many times new as there are children in our lives".


Lisa Ryan Office Manager

Lisa has been the Office Manager at Rainbow since 1999. She wears many hats and  keeps everything running smoothly.  She has two grown children. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her grandchildren.


Jessica Cram Reception

Jessica has been working at Rainbow since 2005. She is the most visible at the reception area but is also crucial as one of our Medical Home coordinators.  She is married and has two children. She is always in a good mood no matter how busy the office gets.


Judi Walker Reception

Judi joined Rainbow Pediatrics in 2011 and is one of our newest employees, although we swear that she has actually been here forever. She constantly makes us all laugh and keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously.


Sumra Harper-Deas RD

Sumra joined us in 2018 as a Registered Dietitian on our Community Health Team.  Her work experience includes clinical nutrition, coordination of a statewide nutrition education program, and as a children with special health needs community nutritionist.  Sumra will help families address concerns about growth, stages of feeding, mealtime behaviors, developing healthful habits, picky eating and more.  In her free time, she enjoys reading with her children and soaking up the quiet Vermont woods near her home.
